India’s first woman press photographer, Homai Vyarawalla compellingly captured the last days of the British Empire and the transformation of India into a modern Nation-State, through a keen photographic account of political, social and cultural life in Delhi. Her photographs, with strong composition and rich tones are a testimony to her skill as a master photographer.
In 2010, the Alkazi Collection of Photography acquired the poignant photographic archives of Homai Vyarawalla. The collection (HV Archive), comprising of photographic prints, negatives and vintage cameras is now being made accessible to scholars and general public through exhibitions and outreach.
