Postcard culture in the subcontinent

A clip on previous collaborative, dedicated exhibitions of the Alkazi Foundation on rare postcards, shown at the Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum (Mumbai) and Art Heritage Gallery (Delhi) between August and November 2018.

Curated with a book by Omar Khan (Mapin and The Alkazi Collection of Photography), together with Consulting Curator, Rahaab Allana, these exhibitions presented postcards from the Omar Khan Collection and The Alkazi Collection of Photography charting the aesthetics and circulation of postcards from the 1890s to 1947.

Spread over major metropolitan cities across India such as Delhi, Calcutta, Chennai and Mumbai along with other South Asian regions like Ceylon, Pakistan and North West frontier, these postcards showcased the associated themes of urbanism, popular culture, industrialisation, tourism and conflict, together with intriguing samples from the Independence movement in India.
